Post-Impressionism is an art movement that emerged as a reaction against Impressionists' concern for the naturalistic depiction of light and color. Emerging in the late 19th century, it continued into the early 20th century.
Post-Impressionists extended Impressionism while rejecting its limitations by emphasizing geometric forms, distorting form for expressive effect, and using unnatural or arbitrary color.
