Understanding the Lunar Cycle πππππ
The lunar phases are the result of the Moon's position in relation to both the Earth and the Sun. As the Moon orbits around the Earth, the sunlit portion that we can see changes, creating the moon phases.
Hereβs a quick breakdown of the major lunar phases:
- New Moon: The Moon is between the Earth and the Sun and is not visible from Earth.
- First Quarter: Half of the Moon is illuminated; it occurs approximately one week after the new moon.
- Full Moon: The Earth is between the Moon and the Sun, making the entire side facing us fully illuminated.
- Last Quarter: Half of the Moon is visible again, leading back to the New Moon.
