Discovering the Snow Leopard's Habitat
The majestic snow leopard (Panthera uncia) is an elusive and enigmatic big cat found in the rugged, mountainous regions of Central and South Asia. Preferring steep, rocky terrain, these solitary felines inhabit ranges across 12 different countries. The high-altitude alpine and subalpine zones, ranging from elevations of approximately 3,000 to 5,500 meters, are where these incredible creatures thrive.
These big cats are perfectly adapted to their cold habitats, with thick fur and a long tail for balance and warmth. Snow leopards primarily hunt wild sheep and goats, demonstrating their prowess as agile predators. Despite their adaptability, conservation efforts are crucial due to habitat fragmentation and poaching.
