Nirvana was an American rock band formed in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987. Founded by lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic, the band went through a succession of drummers, the longest-lasting and best-known being Dave Grohl, who joined in 1990.
Nirvana's success popularized alternative rock, and they are often credited with bringing grunge music to the global stage. Their breakthrough came with the release of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from their second album "Nevermind" (1991). The song became a cultural watershed moment and has left a lasting impact on the music world.
After the tragic death of Kurt Cobain in 1994, the band disbanded. However, their music continues to influence countless artists and remains iconic in rock history.
