Anatoly Karpov, a Russian grandmaster, is a former World Chess Champion and is considered one of the greatest chess players of all time. His reign in the chess world is marked by a superb positional play and a deep understanding of chess strategy.
Karpov became the World Chess Champion in 1975, and he held the title until 1985. He won over 160 tournaments, more than any other player in history. His board battles are legendary, especially his matches against Garry Kasparov.
