Understanding CPR
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a critical life-saving technique used in emergencies when someone's heartbeat or breathing has stopped. Whether due to a sudden heart attack, drowning, or other unexpected situations, knowing how to perform CPR can be the difference between life and death.
CPR involves chest compressions followed by rescue breaths and can be performed by anyone willing to assist, even without formal medical training. Immediate action can drastically increase the likelihood of survival and recovery.
Steps to Perform CPR
- Check the scene for safety and call emergency services if necessary.
- Place the person on their back and kneel beside them.
- Begin chest compressions at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute.
- After 30 compressions, give 2 rescue breaths.
- Continue until help arrives or the person shows signs of movement.
