Understanding IP Addressing
Welcome to the world of networking! 🌐 Understanding IP addresses is a fundamental skill in computer networks. Here, we dive into the anatomy of IP addresses, versions (IPv4 & IPv6), and how they enable devices to communicate over the internet.
IPv4 vs. IPv6
IPv4 has been the dominant version for decades, using a 32-bit address scheme allowing for 232 addresses (approx. 4.3 billion). Due to the internet's growth, IPv6 was introduced with a 128-bit address space, allowing a practically limitless number of addresses.
Dynamic and Static IPs
Devices can have static IPs, which are permanent, or dynamic ones, which change every time they connect to the network. 🐸 Both have their uses in different scenarios!
