About Socrates
Socrates (470–399 BC) was a classical Greek philosopher credited as one of the founders of Western philosophy. He is renowned for his contribution to the field of ethics and his development of the Socratic method—a form of dialogue based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and illuminate ideas.
Socrates didn't write any texts himself, and much of what we know about him comes from the writings of his students Plato and Xenophon.
The Gadfly of Athens
Socrates often referred to himself as the "gadfly" of Athens because he challenged the status quo and encouraged individuals to seek wisdom and self-improvement.
