The Sierpinski Triangle
The Sierpinski triangle, also called the Sierpinski gasket or Sierpinski Sieve, is a fascinating fractal named after the Polish mathematician Wacław Sierpiński. It's a simple but beautiful pattern that emerges from iteratively subdividing an equilateral triangle into smaller triangles.
Generating the Triangle
- Start with an equilateral triangle.
- Subdivide it into four smaller congruent triangles.
- Remove the central triangle.
- Repeat the process for the remaining triangles, ad infinitum!
Exploration and Applications
Fractals like the Sierpinski triangle find applications in computer graphics and natural phenomena modeling. See more at our Fractal Library or discuss in our Geometry Forum.
