The Andromeda Galaxy, also known as Messier 31, is a majestic spiral galaxy approximately 2.537 million light-years from Earth. It is the nearest spiral galaxy to our own Milky Way and is on a collision course with it! In about 4.5 billion years, these two cosmic giants will merge to form a new galaxy, sometimes referred to as Milkomeda.
