Biography
Ravi Shankar was an Indian sitar virtuoso and composer, known for bringing Indian classical music to the international stage. Born on April 7, 1920, in Varanasi, India, Shankar's mesmerizing performances and collaborations with international artists, such as George Harrison of The Beatles, brought a global spotlight to the sitar and Indian classical music.
Shankar began studying music at a young age and eventually became a disciple of Ustad Allauddin Khan. Throughout his career, he popularized Indian music with his incredible skill and charismatic performances. He received numerous awards, including multiple Grammy Awards, and was often referred to as the 'Godfather of World Music.'
In addition to his music career, Shankar was a cultural ambassador, inspiring generations of musicians worldwide. He passed away on December 11, 2012, leaving behind a rich legacy that continues to influence music today.
