Understanding Seventh Chords
Seventh chords provide additional texture and depth to your musical compositions. These chords are built by adding a seventh interval above the root of a triad, leading to variations such as the major seventh (Maj7), minor seventh (m7), and dominant seventh (7) chords.
- Major Seventh (Maj7): A triad with a major seventh above the root. Example: Cmaj7.
- Minor Seventh (m7): A minor triad with a minor seventh added. Example: Cm7.
- Dominant Seventh (7): A major triad with a minor seventh. Example: C7.
