Captain James Cook
James Cook was a British explorer, navigator, and captain in the Royal Navy. He made detailed maps of Newfoundland prior to making three voyages to the Pacific Ocean, where he achieved the first recorded European contact with the eastern coastline of Australia and the Hawaiian Islands.
Captain Ahab
Fictional, but immensely famous, Captain Ahab is the monomaniacal captain of the whaling ship Pequod in Herman Melville's novel "Moby-Dick". He is obsessed with hunting the giant white whale, Moby Dick.
Ching Shih
A powerful and fearsome pirate queen, Ching Shih controlled the infamous Red Flag Fleet. Her fleet terrorized the China Sea during the early 19th century, and at its peak, she commanded over 300 ships and 20,000 to 40,000 pirates.
