Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
- 6 to 8 apples - peeled, cored, and sliced
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, combine 2 ½ cups flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until dough forms.
- Roll dough out to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place crust in pie plate, pressing evenly into the bottom and sides.
- In another bowl, toss apples with sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour into pie crust and dot with butter.
- Cover with top crust, crimp edges to seal, and cut slits in the top to allow steam to escape. Beat egg yolk with milk and brush over crust.
- Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C), and bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until apples are soft.
- Cool on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy!
