Ingredients
- 2 cups rice
- 1 cup split black lentils (urad dal)
- 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
- Water, as needed
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Rinse rice and urad dal separately under cold running water.
- Soak rice and fenugreek seeds together and urad dal in a separate bowl for 4 to 6 hours.
- Grind urad dal into a smooth, fluffy batter using minimal water.
- Grind the rice and fenugreek mixture to a slightly coarser consistency. Combine with urad dal batter.
- Cover the batter and let it ferment overnight or until it doubles in volume.
- Add salt and stir the batter gently.
- Grease idli molds and pour the batter into the molds.
- Steam the idlis for about 10-12 minutes until they are soft and cooked through.
- Serve hot with coconut chutney and sambar. Enjoy your delicious homemade Idlis! 😋
