History & Significance

The Temple of Olympian Zeus, also known as the Olympieion, is one of the largest ancient temples in Greece. Located in the heart of Athens, its construction began in the 6th century BCE but was not completed until the reign of Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century CE. This temple was dedicated to Zeus, the king of the Olympian gods!

Architectural Marvel

Constructed from marble, the temple originally had 104 colossal Corinthian columns, each 17 meters tall. Today, 15 of these columns still stand, testifying to the grandeur of the original structure.
