Caecilians are a group of limbless, serpentine amphibians. Unlike their more famous relatives, frogs and salamanders, caecilians are often overlooked and remain a mystery to many.
Characteristics
- Length varies from a few inches to over five feet.
- Skin is smooth and segmented, resembling a giant earthworm or snake.
- Live primarily underground in tropical regions around the world.
- Have sensory tentacles near the head to detect chemical cues in the environment.
