About Vincent van Gogh
Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. Born on March 30, 1853, in Zundert, Netherlands, he created some 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of which date from the last two years of his life.
The Tragic Life
Despite his artistic genius, Van Gogh lived in poverty and suffered from severe depression throughout his life. His mental health struggles are famously exemplified in the incident of cutting off part of his own ear. He died on July 29, 1890, at the young age of 37 from a gunshot wound, believed to be self-inflicted.
