Elliptical Galaxies

Elliptical galaxies are one of the major types of galaxies observed in the universe. Unlike the more familiar spiral galaxies, elliptical galaxies have a smooth, featureless light profile.

These galaxies range from nearly spherical to highly elongated structures, and they are typically found in rich galaxy clusters.

Elliptical galaxies contain older, red stars and have little to no new star formation. They are fascinating objects that offer insights into the history and mechanics of the cosmos.
