Fermat's Contributions to Number Theory

Pierre de Fermat was a French mathematician who made substantial contributions to number theory, including the famous Fermat's Last Theorem which puzzled mathematicians for over 350 years!

Fermat's Last Theorem states:

There are no whole number solutions to the equation \(x^n + y^n = z^n\) for \(n > 2\).

Fermat also contributed to methods of finding maximum and minimum values of functions and developed the principle of least time in optics!

He was truly a revolutionary thinker, inspiring future generations of mathematicians.

Fun Fact:

Fermat wrote his famous margin note claiming the proof of his theorem was too large to fit in the margin itself!
