What Is a Solar Eclipse?
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun, thereby totally or partially obscuring the sun for a viewer on Earth. Eclipses are rare events and are truly a sight to behold! 🌒
Types of Solar Eclipses
- Total Eclipse: The moon completely covers the sun, as seen from Earth. This is a breathtaking event.
- Partial Eclipse: Only part of the sun is obscured by the moon.
- Annular Eclipse: The sun and moon are exactly in line, but the apparent size of the moon is smaller than that of the sun. This creates a bright ring, known as a ring of fire.
Safety Tips
Viewing a solar eclipse can be done safely with the correct equipment. Never look directly at the sun without proper eye protection!
