Origins of Tennis
Tennis has a rich history, evolving from a game played by monks in France in the 12th century, known as "jeu de paume," to the modern sport we know today. Back then, players used their hands to hit a wooden ball over a rope.
The Birth of Lawn Tennis
In the 1870s, Major Walter Clopton Wingfield redesigned the game to be played on grass, which he called "Sphairistike." It quickly grew in popularity after being patented, leading to the first Wimbledon championships in 1877.
Grand Slam Tournaments
The Grand Slam tournaments are among the most prestigious in the sport. They include the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.
