The Indus Valley Civilization was one of the world's earliest urban civilizations, along with Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt. It was mainly located in what is now Pakistan and northwest India, on the fertile floodplain of the Indus River and its vicinity.
This civilization is especially noted for its advanced urban planning, architecture, and social organization. The major sites associated with this civilization are Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro.
