Sirius, also known as the Dog Star, is the brightest star in Earth's night sky. It is located in the constellation Canis Major and is a binary star system, consisting of the white main-sequence star Sirius A, and a faint white dwarf companion Sirius B.
Sirius has been recognized since antiquity and even appears in various mythologies and folklore. It's approximately 8.6 light-years away from Earth, making it one of the nearest stars to our solar system.
