Johannes Brahms
Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) was a German composer and pianist from the Romantic period. He is considered one of the leading musicians of the 19th century and is often grouped with Bach and Beethoven as one of the "Three Bs" of music. Brahms's compositions have been admired for their intellectual depth, technical command, and artistic beauty.
Brahms composed for symphony orchestra, chamber ensembles, piano, organ, and voice and chorus. A virtuoso pianist, he premiered many of his own works. Brahms wrote a significant portion of his music for non-professional musicians, a reflection of his own fondness for music that could be enjoyed and shared by people of all skill levels.
