What is the Fibonacci Sequence?

The Fibonacci sequence is a special series of numbers where each number is the sum of the two preceding ones, usually starting with 0 and 1. It goes like this: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, and so on. It's named after Leonardo of Pisa, an Italian mathematician who lived during the Medieval era and is also known as Fibonacci.

Why is the Fibonacci Sequence Important?

This sequence appears in many different areas of mathematics and nature. You might find the Fibonacci sequence in the arrangements of leaves on a stem, the branches of trees, or in the spiral patterns of shells. It's also closely related to the golden ratio.
