Meet the Arctic's Iconic Predator
Polar bears (Ursus maritimus) are a wonder of the Arctic—they're the largest land carnivores on Earth! 🐻❄️ With their thick white fur and powerful builds, polar bears have uniquely adapted to living in one of the harshest environments on the planet.
Adaptations and Diet
These incredible animals have a fat layer up to 11 centimeters thick for insulation against the cold and swim great distances in their search for food. Their diet primarily consists of seals, which they hunt on the sea ice.
Conservation Status
Polar bears are currently listed as a vulnerable species, mainly due to the effects of climate change diminishing their sea ice habitat.
