René Descartes, often called the "father of modern philosophy," was a key figure in the scientific revolution. His most famous statement is "Cogito, ergo sum"—"I think, therefore I am."
Descartes was also a mathematician, having invented the Cartesian coordinate system which laid the groundwork for modern geometry.
