Loving-Kindness Meditation

Loving-kindness meditation is a practice that involves mentally sending goodwill, kindness, and warmth towards others by silently repeating a series of phrases.

Starting the Practice

  1. Find a comfortable position, sitting quietly with your eyes closed. Take a few deep breaths and relax.
  2. Begin by generating kind and loving feelings towards yourself. Silently repeat phrases such as “May I be happy. May I be healthy. May I be safe. May I live with ease.”
  3. After cultivating loving-kindness for yourself, shift your attention to someone you deeply care about. Use similar phrases to wish them happiness, health, and peace.
  4. Gradually extend your practice to include others: acquaintances, strangers, and even those you may have difficulties with.
